Course
Instructions |
|
1 |
The start time is 12:00 noon
in the Summer (Daylight Saving Time) and 11:00 in Winter (EST). |
| 2 |
The course consists of two
triangles and a sausage. |
| |
|
|
The start /
finish line is formed by the moorings of Shaya Moya & Possible Dream -
directly in front of the Broadwater Yacht Club (BYC). |
| |
|
|
1 |
The second
western mark (Trim Flag) will be laid in the vicinity of Farnell Bight.
|
|
2 |
The third
mark
is the blue police mooring near the baths off Lilli Pilli point. |
|
3 |
From the start, sail
roughly west to the Trim mark, round it to port. |
|
4 |
Then sail south-east to
the police mooring rounding it to port. |
|
5 |
Then sail north to
Possible Dream's mooring, and round it to port, which completes the
first triangle. |
|
6 |
Complete a second
triangle in the same manner. |
|
7 |
Then sail west to the
Trim mark, round it to port, and return to the finish crossing from west to east. |
| |
|
|
Bad Weather |
|
In the event of unsuitable
weather, we may delay the start until we are happy with the conditions.
If the weather forecast
is unsuitable the day before the scheduled race, a notice will be posted
on the web along with alternate plans. |
| |
|
|
Shortened Course |
|
1 |
The course will be limited to
1.5
hours, so skippers need to be aware of the leading boat throughout the time
frame. |
|
2 |
The start time is
referenced to the limit yacht. If the leading boat has not
completed the course by 1.5 hours, the finish will be at the next mark from the
leading yacht. |

Rules
& Etiquette |
|
1 |
The 10 commandments of Yachting are as follows: |
| |
1)
Port keeps clear of starboard.
2)
Windward keeps clear of leeward.
3)
The boat astern keeps clear of the boat ahead.
4)
A boat tacking or gybing keeps clear of one that is not.
5)
Avoid collisions. Racing rules are defensive to prevent
collisions, not offensive racing tactics.
6)
If you gain right of way or change course, give the other boat
time to keep clear.
7)
The inside boat(s) at two boat lengths from the mark is entitled
to room to round the mark.
8)
A boat that is backing up or not racing keeps clear.
9)
If you have violated a rule, take a penalty.
10) It is better to give way than to spend
hours in a protest room.
|
|
2 |
Communicate your intentions
early if manoeuvring in close quarters. |
|
3 |
If there are vessels on
any of the moorings in the course, you should leave a good safe distance
between yourself and the moored boat as you pass. |
|
4 |
The Port Hacking Open
Sailing Club (Yowie Bay) has a Sunday race that starts at 1:30pm and mainly
involves small dinghies. If you encounter any of these boats be
courteous and stay well clear. |
| |
|
|
Berthing |
|
Yachts will be found suitable
berths after the race. This will include rafting with moored yachts in the
vicinity or rafting on pontoons. Please look for instructions from the
shore.
DO NOT JUST START RAFTING UP
ON WHATEVER BOAT IS ON THE PONTOON. |
|
1 |
There are a number of
moorings that are often spare in Turriell Bay, and we will have a
tender to help those on moorings come ashore. |
|
2 |
For those not familiar
with the bay, it is a 60 foot sandy bottom, so anchoring may be difficult. |
|
3 |
Please note: the three
moorings in front of the BYC will usually be occupied by Possible Dream,
Marritti, & Reflections III, so do not claim one of them if these boats are
still sailing. |

|
After Race - Picnic Party
|
|
John Barter has kindly offered
his water-front (otherwise known as the Broadwater Yacht Club) for BBQ and
drinks after the cruise. |
|
1 |
Each vessel is
required to submit a bottle of red wine ($10 - $20 value) upon arrival at the
BBQ. These will then be presented as prizes when the last crew arrives. |
|
2 |
These bottles of
red should be consumed at the BYC or left behind on departure for the remaining
crews (the idea is to promote social gathering rather than win prizes). |
|
3 |
Further to this, as
the last three vessels will not win back a bottle (because 1st
place gets three bottles & 2nd place gets two) the crew are
encouraged to get their glasses ‘topped up’ by the higher placed boats if they
happen to run dry. |
|
4 |
Bring your own food and
drinks. A BBQ will be burning, but there are limited chairs and tables, so we
recommend food that can be eaten by hand (such as sausage sandwiches or kebab
on a roll). |
|
5 |
Some condiments,
plates, & knives & forks will be provided. |
|
6 |
Access is available by road. The address is the corner of Turriell Bay Road
and Wareemba Place Lilli Pilli. Park your car and walk around the house on the
water side and you will find an inclinator that will take you to the
waterfront. |
| |
Please
clean up after yourself when you depart, and remove your own rubbish.
Also note that
the BYC is a NON SMOKING venue. |
